4 Things You Should Do Before a Root Canal
Blog
It is one of those appointments that slowly creep up on your calendar. You aren’t as excited to countdown your visit to the Dentist (or endodontist), as you are to countdown a trip to the beach. More often than not pain is the reason you are having a dental procedure.
Here are a few easy steps to make your Root Canal as painless as possible.
- Get Plenty of Rest: More often than not the patient is more nervous than they should be. With technological advancement in the execution of Root Canals the stereotypes are just that, stereotypes. A sleepless night before your procedure will just lead to more anxiety and irritability.
- Take an over the counter pain medication: A simple Ibuprofen can help ease the soreness and discomfort as the anesthesia wears off. The pain following a Root Canal usually only merits an over the counter remedy. It’s not as painful as they say!
- Eat Something: You will be in the dentist chair for a period of time. After your procedure your mouth may be numb and you are encouraged to only eat on one side of your mouth. It is better to have a meal before to counteract the nausea that can accompany anesthesia as well as avoid eating while your mouth is numb.
- Relax! Root Canals are one of the most notoriously feared procedures but for no particular reason. Especially with all the advancements being made in the field the last thing you should be worrying about is pain. The procedure is meant to relieve the pain you have already been feeling in your affected tooth. So take a deep breath and look forward to feeling much better in the long run.
With any procedure whether it is elective or not a consultation is recommended to make you feel at ease and understand what will take place. Make sure you feel informed and trust your physician.
