What is Involved During the Initial Visit?

Your first appointment will focus on meeting your endodontist and a consultation that will explain your diagnosis and available treatment options. This initial assessment will typically involve a clinical exam along with select digital radiographic imaging (which may include a CBCT or “3D” scan of your tooth). If root canal treatment is recommended, sometimes your endodontist can perform the appropriate treatment on the same day as the initial consultation. You may need to schedule another appointment, but this depends on each individual’s medical history and the complexity of the required treatment. Your endodontist will gladly discuss your options in great detail.

What sort of treatments do Endodontists perform?

Endodontists are dental specialists that perform endodontic therapy. Types of treatment typically include root canal treatment, endodontic retreatment, and endodontic microsurgery. In addition, endodontists can manage cracked teeth and traumatic dental injuries. They primarily focus on procedures that involve the soft inner tissues of the teeth (the pulp). Endodontists receive two or more additional years of advanced education when compared to general dentists. Most patients receive referrals to an endodontic specialist because of their specialized skills.
